At the beginning of this guided meditation, Dr Joe uses convergent and divergent focus techniques so that you will begin to produce very organized, coherent and integrated brain-wave patterns. A convergent technique is when you focus on a body part; a divergent technique is when you focus on the space around your body. By following his instructions, your brain-waves will begin to slow down from beta to alpha or theta so that you bypass the analytical mind and enter the subconscious mind in order to reprogram unwanted habits, emotional states and behaviors.
For further information regarding the purpose and benefits of this meditation, refer to Chapters 9 – 13 in Dr Joe's book Breaking the Habit Being Yourself. The written form of this meditation can be found in the Appendix of the book.
